About the Band
Artur Dutkiewicz Jazz Trio
The Artur Dutkiewicz Jazz Trio is one of Poland's most esteemed contemporary jazz ensembles, recognized for its distinctive style and powerful musical expression. Led by pianist and composer Artur Dutkiewicz – a laureate of numerous pianist competitions in Poland and a finalist of the Thelonious Monk competition in Washington in 1989 – the trio has established itself as a leading voice in European jazz.
Since its formation in 1996, the trio has undergone several lineup changes. The configuration featured in this 2016 performance included:
- Artur Dutkiewicz - piano
- Michał Barański - bass
- Łukasz Żyta - drums
This lineup, active since 2012, created some of the group's most celebrated works. Their previous albums, "Prana" and "Traveller," received exceptional acclaim from music critics and audiences.
The trio is known for its adventurous musical approach, blending elements of free jazz, contemporary music, traces of Polish folk culture, and world music. Their compositions demonstrate both deep roots in jazz improvisation and a willingness to explore diverse musical influences.
With an extensive international touring schedule, the Artur Dutkiewicz Jazz Trio remains one of Poland's premier jazz ambassadors on the global stage.
