ATOM String Quartet Live in Coquitlam (2014)

On March 14, 2014, the Evergreen Theatre hosted a captivating performance by Poland's renowned ATOM String Quartet, featuring Dawid Lubowicz (violin), Mateusz Smoczyński (violin), Michał Zaborski (viola), and Krzysztof Lenczowski (cello).

About ATOM String Quartet

Founded in Warsaw in 2010, ATOM String Quartet uniquely chose to play jazz despite all members being graduates of the Warsaw Chopin University of Music. They hold the distinction of being Poland's first jazz string quartet.

Their music masterfully blends classical forms with improvisation, incorporating folk and jazz influences. Recognized for their original compositions, they have also paid tribute to Polish jazz greats like Zbigniew Seifert and arranged works by modern composers such as Lutosławski and Penderecki.

The quartet has released several acclaimed albums, winning multiple "Fryderyk" awards (Polish Grammy equivalent), including Jazz Debut of the Year for "Fade In" (2011) and Album of the Year - Jazz for "Places" (2012). Their collaborative work, like "Made in Poland" with Leopoldinum Orchestra, also received a "Fryderyk".

ATOM String Quartet has collaborated with numerous world-class artists, including Branford Marsalis, Bobby McFerrin, Gil Goldstein, Leszek Możdżer, and Lars Danielsson. Recognized as one of the rare string quartets globally playing jazz, their modern and original sound, partly due to their unique instrumentation, continues to impress audiences worldwide.
