Jazz Café Recap (November 2011)

The second Jazz Café event took place on November 4, 2011, at the Polish Community Centre ZGODA. The evening featured performances by pianist Sharon Minemoto and saxophonist Eli Bennett.



About the Musicians

Sharon Minemoto (Piano)

Sharon Minemoto is a respected Vancouver-based pianist and composer with an international performing career spanning decades. Known for her swinging, melodic style and hip compositions, she leads her own ensembles and has released several albums, including "Side A", "Safe Travels", and "Dark Night, Bright Stars". Sharon holds a degree from Capilano College, studied with renowned pianists like Geoff Keezer, Renee Rosnes, and Kenny Werner, and is an active educator at Vancouver Community College and various workshops.

Eli Bennett (Saxophone)

Eli Bennett is a Juno-nominated saxophonist and Leo Award-winning film composer from Vancouver. He has performed at the GRAMMY Awards and shared stages with jazz legends like Oscar Peterson and Terence Blanchard. Bennett has received numerous awards, including the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. His debut album "Breakthrough" was a top seller, and he earned a Juno nomination for his work with Five Alarm Funk. Eli also composes for film/TV and performs with his wife, violinist Rosemary Siemens, in the duo SaxAndViolin.
