Kochan & Bałdych Jazz Quartet in Vancouver (2015)
On March 20, 2015, the Norman Rothstein Theatre hosted an exciting collaboration featuring the Jacek Kochan & Adam Bałdych Jazz Quartet. The ensemble included Adam Bałdych (violin), Dominik Wania (piano), Michał Kapczuk (bass), and Jacek Kochan (drums).
About the Quartet Leaders
This special ensemble brought together two powerhouses of Polish jazz:
Jacek Kochan (Drums)
A veteran composer, arranger, and drummer originally from Krakow and now based in Montreal. Kochan studied music in Poland and Canada and is known for a dynamic drumming style blending melody and polyrhythm. As a prolific bandleader, his original compositions often explore odd meters and fuse elements of jazz with groove, hip-hop, and funk.
Adam Bałdych (Violin)
An internationally acclaimed violinist and composer hailed for his phenomenal technique. Bałdych began performing globally as a teenager and is an ACT MUSIC recording artist. A graduate of music academies in Poland and Berklee College of Music, he has received numerous awards, including the prestigious ECHO Jazz award in Germany. His music often incorporates folkloric motifs and showcases a unique European jazz sensibility.
The Collaboration
This quartet performance offered a unique blend of Kochan's rhythmically adventurous, genre-crossing compositions and Bałdych's virtuosic violin playing, backed by the talented Dominik Wania on piano and Michał Kapczuk on bass.
